Quantum Gallery

“Reality is non-local.” Not only do the elementary particles that make up the things we see around us not exist until they are observed, but they are not, at the most essential level, even identifiably separable from other such particles arbitrarily far away.

Under the 15 Freeway next to Qualcomm stadium exists a hidden cache of street art and skateboard ramps that are the principal components to a ‘quantum gallery’.  This quantum gallery is completely overlooked in everyday life, essentially it is a place that does not exist until it is observed.  When observed it comes to life in all the vibrant colors and grinding sounds of the street.  The place is so hidden, in fact, that no attempt to conceal or destroy this location has been made, it is a safe haven from the relentless pushing and shoving of the city.  A small bubble of freedom in the middle of the churning machine.  Skateboards grind on makeshift ramps below while cars speed by on the freeway above – completely oblivious.

I remember when the skate park was built. There was a little farm there before that, in the 70′s. I was sad the farm was torn down. Now I’m sad that the skate park is decrepit.

But I like the graffiti billboard!

City workers go in there and gray-wash everything periodically. Everything that I photographed in this article is now gone – slowly being replaced by new pieces.
