Boom Town
One week left of Ramadan and the hajis are starting to get crazy. Apparently not only is the entire fucking holiday of Ramadan a one way ticket to heaven, but if you die during this last week then you get extra virgins or something. So the deal is this, these fucking assholes pray and fast for the first 3 weeks, then come week 4 they really start in with the suicide bombings and attacks and all that shit. Yesterday there were like 4 vehicle IEDs on the roads around Baghdad. We got stuck in a mess every time we tried to punch out from one of our locations no matter which route we tried to use and eventually ended up stuck in the shit every time. Shot up 2 vehicles, threw several flash-bangs, finally broke a t-rod on one of the suburbans when jumping a curb and had to RTB back at the fucking site. Finally after getting some other dudes to come out with another vehicle we drive down ambush alley, then up the BIAP just in time to see fresh bodies on the side of the road from another vehicle IED. The government of Iraq yesterday declared martial law and it looks like we may be in for more fighting. We watched coalition aircraft (fastmovers) pass overhead all day dropping off toys and candy to the citizens of Fallujah. Good news for the Marines is that those big 500lb bombs are sympathetically detonating a lot of IEDs and boobytraps and the like. All the putrid fucks that made it through the pathetic joke training that the US is sponsoring are being sent right into the meat grinder. The Marines are gonna be used as a blocking force to surround and patrol the main areas while the dirt-monkeys go right up the gut into the mosques and hospitals and schools and other such places that infidels can’t set foot. A bunch have quit right down there in Fallujah, saying ‘i dont wanna hurt my fellow muslim brothers’. Total bullshit. They are just lazy and afraid. The invasion there has been so highly publicized that all the insurgents have totally booby-trapped the shit out of the place then pulled the fuck out. Word on the streets has it that an Iraqi colonel that had been present during all the planning briefs disappeared. Unknown whether or not he went over to the insurgents or just left but the fallout was that the entire attack was postponed and had to be totally changed. A lot of insugents have moved into the Baghdad area which is not good for yours truly. We didn’t actually have any moves today, stand down due to several VBIEDs and a heavy mortar attack that shook my little bum-nest last night. They shut down several of the checkpoints and highways because of the attacks. I’ve heard a number of different explosions but sometimes its difficult to determine incoming or outgoing if you’re not right there at ground zero. I think I will be much happier after Ramadan is over and hopefully all the suicide bombers have blown themselves up already (knock on wood).
