Iraq-o-Ween

HAPPY IRAQ-O-WEEN!!! There was light rain all day over here. I felt bad for the soldiers out on the roads today, apparently there is a heightened alert during the election time so the military has a bunch of Bradleys and M1′s and stuff plopped along the major highway to prevent attacks. The guys look like they are just living out of their vehicles for a few days. We used to run into these dudes stationed out in BFE on Route Tampa (main N/S highway in country) and kick them down burgers or smokes or beer or whatever we had to help out, they would be just left out there 2-3 weeks at a time holding security along the roadways eating-sleeping-living in the dirt. I personally believe that this level of security should be maintained 24/7 along the BIAP but I think its a manpower issue or something. Anyway, the traffic was totally crazy today.. Whenever anything happens here the people fucking lose their minds. Like if theres a dust storm or it rains or its really hot or really cold or whatever the people all start acting loco and this totally manifests itself on the roads. Mid-morning we got into a huge pepperspray fight with each other and ended up totally dosing everyone our car (super-funny). One poor dude got it the worst (some people are more susceptable to the hot-sauce I guess) and was coughing and sneezing all day.. It was pretty funny. Later on just before lunch we shot up a vehicle that was threatening the convoy, nothing serious, just a little 5.56 in the engine to keep the fuckers back. It becomes a real split second decision a lot of times because the main threat on the roads here lately has been the vehicle IEDs (basically a kamikazi car packed with explosives). We try not to take any chances and keep the savages at a distance but sometimes they don’t want to follow instructions or they come on too fast and we have to blast ‘em. Anyway, no real harm done. Noah and I ‘trick-or-treated’ at our racks today.. split a bag of Skittles (bite size candies). Not nearly as fun as getting totally loaded and cruising Hollywood Blvd or crashing some swanky houseparty, but we got what we got. Hope all you guys have a lot of fun tonight, I know I speak for everyone here when I say that we wish we could be back there with everyone dressing up like a weirdo and blasting through vodka like its water. later.
